Food is one of the essential parts of our life that is treated as fuel to our body. But, many fuels or foods could be bad for us and may cause inflammation, leading to many inflammatory diseases like arthritis, heart disease, Alzheimer and in some cases, cancer. So, make sure you avoid these five inflammation-causing food items out of your diet so that your body becomes healthier and saved from inflammatory diseases.
1. Saturated fats
Many studies have shown that saturated fats promote inflammation of fat tissue. This has a negative effect on arthritis which is also an indicator of heart disease. Saturated fats are mostly found in cheese, red meat, fast food, and high-fat dairy products. Therefore, ones suffering from arthritis must avoid these food products.
Sugar may be hard to avoid if you got a sweet tooth as it is one of the leading causes of inflammation. Sugar triggers cytokines, a release of inflammatory proteins and surprisingly, these proteins are important in fighting against inflammation, but there are both pro and anti-inflammatory cytokines.
Sugar causes the release of the pro-inflammation variety, which is not good for the body. You can try honey or jaggery as an alternative to sugar as they can work the same as sugar but are healthier.
3. Processed Carbohydrate
One of the main culprits is white flour such as bread, fried foods, and white rice included. These foods promote the production of advanced glycation end products that cause inflammation in the body. Studies have also evaluated that refined carbohydrates may be worse than fats in contributing to obesity.
4. Additive and Artificial Sweetener
Substances such as aspartame and monosodium glutamate may cause an immune response.
The body frequently “attacks Aspartame, a neurotoxin, therefore causing inflammation. Aspartame, in particular, is commonly found in soft drinks, especially in “diet” cokes or the ones that claim to be “healthier” beverages.
Also, MSG, a flavor enhancer, is commonly found in many canned and prepared foods, fast food, and deli meats that contribute to chronic inflammation and negatively impact the liver.
Gluten protein in grains and processed foods is the cause of the most common sensitivities and allergic reactions that people have, causing inflammation of the intestinal tract. The protein found in wheat (amylase-trypsin inhibitors or ATIs) affects inflammation even beyond the gut.
ATIs can cause inflammation in the “lymph nodes, kidneys, spleen and brain” and can “worsen the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, asthma, lupus and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.”
Cutting off these food items from your diet can give you multiple benefits and free you from any inflammatory disease that can cause complications and worsen your health.
